And no, it's not a Fiero.

Mercury Capri.

the early 90s Australian Capri
sold as a Mercury over here, sold as Ford in Australia. It even has a cute lil back seat, FWD, and a turbo was available (called the XR2)

Is this a repost? I swear someone else posted a red Mercury Capri a couple weeks ago and asked what it was, too?

Mercury Capri, though I’ve never seen the hardtop in person.

Mercury Capri with a hardtop!

A turbo model and a hard top. That’s a rare find, but not a good one. My dad had one for a few years in the mid 90's. The top down made it fun to ride in, but they were otherwise forgettable cars that are vastly inferior to miata in every way.

Not that I'm aware? Though, I'm not on here enough to know. Haha.

I have a weird want?

Im sorry, is that back seat for guinea pigs?

I was a bit smitten.

So, a true unicorn!?
![]() 09/26/2019 at 17:09 |

In a way, yes. Although, that’s a unicorn I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Given how mediocre they were at the time , I can’t imagine how underwhelming one would be almost 20 years old.

One of my coworkers recently bought one for his mom. I took a brief ride in the backseat and can state that even a guinea pig would feel claustrophobic.

An Australian car with a Japanese engine, a German made convertible top, and an American name

So, the Eeyore of unicorns.

That's terrifying.

Yes!

So, underwhelming, but potentially reliable? Corolla coupe?
![]() 09/26/2019 at 17:48 |

Yeah kinda. And the XR2 turbo ones are quick.

Drove a Capri XR2 one time. I was amazed that such a small car could have such severe body roll.

I can’t remember the last time I saw one with a hardtop, and its been maybe 14-15 years since I’ve seen one at all.

No prob! I think one or two others beat me to it, but I figured the Wiki link would give you informationz.

I’ve ridden in the back of one (270 lbs 5'11") yes, it is not meant for humans, maybe an average sized dog.
